Michela Bonomo is an architect, researcher, and writer. Her research focuses on the intersection of architectural history, construction, and the seaside landscape in the 20th century. She is particularly interested in reappraising the typological approach through hybrid methodologies. Her work is driven by a strong commitment to incorporating fieldwork and photography as primary sources, alongside drawing, interviews, and literary materials in the study of buildings.

She holds a PhD in Architectural History, Theory, and Criticism from EPFL, where she completed her dissertation, Villa-mania: The Project of the Seaside Villa Ideology in Postwar Italy (1953–1973), which was awarded distinction and nominated for the Doctoral Programme Award in 2026. Within the Institute of Architecture at EPFL, she taught at the Bachelor's level, supervised Master’s theses within TPOD Lab, and served as one of the editors of Burning Farm Journal. Between 2023 and 2025, she acted as a PhD representative, co-founding the collective Quatre, and launched the first edition of Doc. Days EDAR, a cross-laboratory doctoral seminar series.

Prior to joining EPFL, she worked in industry as a fully qualified architect at Herzog & de Meuron and Foster + Partners, while also undertaking freelance refurbishment projects. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from Metropolitan University, earned her Master’s at the Architectural Association School of Architecture, and obtained her architect title at Westminster University (RIBA PART 3) in London. Her writing has been published in both peer-reviewed journals and national newspapers.
